American College of Physicians

CoC Member since 1953

The mission of the American College of Physicians (ACP) is to enhance the quality and effectiveness of health care by fostering excellence and professionalism in the practice of medicine. ACP represents a diverse community of 163,000 internal medicine specialists and subspecialists, and is a leader in education, clinical and ethical standard-setting, advocacy, and quality improvement.

ACP and the Commission on Cancer (CoC) share a dedication through their missions of providing quality information to enhance patient care, through standard-setting, prevention, research, education, and the monitoring of comprehensive quality care. ACP values our membership in the CoC in working together to enhance the effectiveness of care for all patients, including those with cancer. ACP values the accreditation process as it supports quality by standardization of evidence-based approaches. As an evidence-based organization, it’s critical to provide information to physicians and patients based on scientific evidence.

ACP and the CoC both represent the best intentions for patients. Our common areas of focus on well-being, interprofessional care, advocacy, and policy to positively impact health care, and our commitment to patient-centered care, are critical in the often-complex world of medicine and patient care.
