According to Cancer Committee members at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center, undergoing the Commission on Cancer (CoC) accreditation process assures staff that they are regularly reviewing and evaluating important quality metrics. Also, patients have confidence when choosing Lahey, knowing that they will be receiving comprehensive, multidisciplinary, high-quality care at a CoC-accredited program. They can be sure that the program has processes in place for monitoring quality of care and that they will have access to clinical trials. 

The accreditation process allows staff to measure how their program compares with other institutions and through these evaluations, they make sure that Lahey is always in the top tier. 

As an accredited institution, Lahey Hospital and Medical Center has access through the CoC to information derived from the National Cancer Database. Physicians at Lahey have used this data to help answer important clinical questions and perform quality improvement efforts.
