Baylor Scott & White Health is honored to have the longest-running accredited program in Texas. Continuously receiving the Commission on Cancer accreditation is important as a marker of quality for our patients and members as well as our community at large, reaffirming that cancer care will be second-to-none at Baylor Scott & White. The accreditation process also provides direct, objective measures of comparison to other regional and national cancer treatment centers, allowing us an introspective analysis of our own treatment trends and outcomes.
The process of maintenance of accreditation includes real-time assessment of a number of evidence-based quality metrics, annual quality improvement processes, and assessment of barriers to care. As importantly, it enhances the unity of our program, further strengthening the embedded multidisciplinary practices of our divisions and departments. It also provides a medium for the centralization of research and participation in clinical trials. We truly believe our patients are better for having been treated at an accredited facility.
Our patients can receive their work-up and all their treatment modalities in one place. This is convenient for patients and has the additional benefit of having all medical records in one location.
At Baylor Scott & White, our site-specific cancer conferences for breast, lung GI, GU, Head & Neck, CNS, Endo, Sarcoma, and Leukemia/Lymphoma/Myeloma allow a multidisciplinary approach to the evaluation and treatment of our patients. Social Workers and Research staff attend these meetings and contribute to the discussion.
