Society of Surgical Oncology

CoC Member since 1976

The mission of the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) is to improve multidisciplinary patient care by advancing the science, education and practice of cancer surgery worldwide. The SSO was founded in 1940 and joined the CoC in 1976.

The CoC and the SOS are mutually dedicated to improving patient care through education and the practice of cancer surgery. As a member of the CoC, the SOS lends its voice and wisdom by collaborating on the development of treatment standards and participating in research and education efforts for surgeons.

As the professional home for surgical oncologists, the SSO recognizes the importance of integrated, high-quality cancer care. Quality of care is continually evolving and needs to be reflected in treatment standards. The accreditation process is one way to ensure that hospitals and health systems recognize and act upon the best protocols for delivering care.

The SSO and the CoC have a symbiotic relationship with deep roots in similar missions and visionary leadership. In fact, since 1975 eight SSO Presidents have also served as CoC Chairs, which has helped to facilitate a unified approach to progress and innovations in the treatment of cancer. SSO is proud to be a member of the CoC and looks forward to continued collaborations that educate cancer surgeons on treatment standards, as well as other new initiatives that focus on enhancing the quality of cancer care.
